Former Moderator Most Rev. I  Yesudasn Passes away

 Most Rev Isaiah Jesudasan

CSI South Kerala Diocese former bishop and moderator Most Rev. Dr. I. Yesudasan (88) passed away at SUT Hospital in Pattom on Sunday (16.06.2013) at 10 am.

He was admitted at the hospital a few days before, for respiratory problems. The funeral services were held at the cemetery in LMS compound  on Tuesday (18.06.2013) in the presence of a huge mass of people representing various levels of the society.
Most Rev. Yesudasan was born on February 14, 1925 at Amaravila as the son of Rev. Isaiah and Mrs. Lissy. He was a member of Kariyal Thottam family. He obtained L.Th degree from Kannammoola United Theological Seminary, BD from Serampur University and M.Th from Leonor Theological Seminary. He also obtained STM Degree from New York Union Theological Seminary. Serampur University honoured him by bestowing a Doctorate.
Rev. Yesudasan began his services in Kodankara CSI parish, as lay worker. He was ordained a priest in 1955. Thereafter, he served in Parasuvaikal parish. He was appointed a lecturer and, later, Principal in Kannammoola UT Seminary.
The Most Rev Isaiah Jesudasan (1973-1990) was consecrated as the Bishop of SKD on 5 August 1973. He was Deputy Moderator of the Church of South India from 1980-81 and Moderator from 1982-1987. He served as a Central Committee member of the W..C.C Hon.Doctorate of Divinity was conferred upon him in 1988. He retired from active service on 14th February 1990 on completion of 65 years of age.

When he became the Moderator in 1982, he became the first Malayalee to preside over a church with its base outside Kerala. He was elected to this post three times consecutively, which is also a rare achievement for any Bishop. This accounts for his popularity and the respect he commanded among both the clergy and the laity in the church.

After his retirement, he served the poor and sidelined through the Society for Integrated Development of Rural People.
Bishop Yesudasan authored many books which reflected his deep-rooted knowledge in Christian theology as well as the spirituality of other religions. “Hindu Matha Praveshika”, “Missionary Veeranaaya Vishuddha Paulose”, “Kristhu Jayanthi” and “Pravachaka Shabdam” are the noted amongst them.
Bishop Yesudasan’s commanding personality and leadership enabled our Church to get a respectable position in the society and integrate with the mainstream. A visionary and modern in his outlook, the first priestess in Kerala was ordained by him.
CSI Kattakada parish pay our deep homage to Most Rev. Yesudasan and pray his soul rest in peace.
